  1. CATCHMENT MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES AND PLANNING

Developed, facilitated and presented a 4-day training programme in Catchment Management Planning at the Village scale, for district officers. As part of the development of National Catchment Management and Rural Infrastructure Guidelines for Malawi, compiled and presented training programme. Development of training materials included: lecture series, participant workbooks, interactive games for practical re-iteration of lecture series, assignment and field visit.

The training programme was adopted by the Local Development Fund (LDF) through the MASIF-IV project for safety Net Planning for Districts in preparation for climate change and disaster risk reduction.

The guidelines were also compiled into a mobile app called Thrive, in collaboration with ICLEI

  1. PLANNING FOR CLIMATE CHANGE: TRAINING

Training material for the training of National and District Irrigation Officers in the preparation of climate change. Training programme includes international framework, causes of climate change, natural resources management and government, impacts to water resources (surface and groundwater), catchment management planning, and change management. Specific module contributions and training: Natural Resources Management, and Catchment Management Planning.

Project included compiling training materials accredited by LUANAR, training of National officials, training of District officials from multidisciplinary background and responsibilities, compiling a community workbook for community-based training.

     3. SOIL EROSION BOOK

Authored, compiled and funded a children’s literacy book on soil erosion. In addition to English, the book has been translated into Afrikaans and Xhosa and being distributed to schools as a reading literacy book for curriculum support material.

 

     4. School Curriculum Content Grade 7-9 Geography: Water Unit

Client: Water Research Commission, South Africa

Funding Agency: Water Research Commission

Lead Consultant: Aurecon South Africa (Pty) Ltd

Review of the school curriculum and develop teacher training materials to support education of sustainable natural resources in the school curriculum. Provide training for implementation in a case study catchment in rural Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

5. CANDIDATE ENGINEER TRAINING

Client: Department of Roads and Public Works, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa

The development of a guideline about environmental management practices for road construction and maintenance, for candidate and student engineers at the Eastern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works.

Responsible for: chapter contribution that addressed the environmental legal requirements of road construction and maintenance activities.
